Ancillary Texts

It is time for us to move on...

1. Create a post reflecting on the following question:

  • What are the three main film magazines?
  • Can you create a collage/ mood board of existing film magazine front covers?
  • What conventions do you notice? (Consider colour, layout, design, typography, features, shot type etc.)

2.  Select a film magazine cover that features a film from your chosen genre. Use a technology that you deem appropriate to analyse the front cover. Remember: write analytical paragraphs (denotation+ connotations+ link to key concept)

You must have finished filming by Thursday 12th February to be in a position to submit your trailer for assessment at the end of the month.

If there is anything missing from your research and planning you must complete this and catch up! Have you reflected on feedback and made a positive change?

Cover Work and Progress Check

We are moving on to look at print products (ancillary texts) next week so you need to finalise any research and planning for your trailer this week. This includes consideration of sound, locations, shooting schedules and any filiming/ photography.

Before next lesson (Thursday 29th January) you need to do the following:

  • Finish your final pitch/ theory sugar paper posters (upload a photo onto your blog)
  • Catch up on any missed work or incomplete tasks from research and planning (see the spreadsheet below)
  • Look at the example of Risk Assessments on the exemplar blog http://gemmacooneymedia.weebly.com/risk-assessments.html create these for your trailer
Your final deadline for all research, planning and products (including trailer and print products) will be Thursday 26th February.

Final Pitch

It is very important that you are clear on your film ideas and there is a rationale behind the decisions that you have made.

Print out your final pitch (it should be about 600-1000 words). Stick it on a piece of sugar paper and use the handouts/ your notes and understanding of media concepts and theory to annotate your ideas.

What has informed these ideas? Can you give examples from your research and planning? How have you followed generic conventions or subverted them?

Write detailed, analytical paragraphs that address all of these and 'show off'' making clear links between Mr Love and my lessons.

Get creative and enjoy!

Holiday homework reminder...

Your next lesson with me is on Wednesday 14th January. Have you done the minimum? Is that enough? You should be thinking outside of the box and spreadsheet! If you have completed tasks you need to think about the next stages and what you can research or plan to improve you work. Keep going...
